Shift sensor
The Bafang shift sensor is an ingenious device that increases the efficiency and comfort of shifting at the same time. It is specially designed for Bafang MaxDrive center drives in combination with a derailleur. The shift sensor disconnects the engine thrust during shifting and thereby saves the individual components of the entire transmission mechanism. It reduces noise and eliminates shocks. Despite the indisputable advantages of central drives on e-bikes, gear shifting may not always be as comfortable as with hub motors. Specifically, it is the transmission of the torque of the drive from the driven converter to the entire transmission, during which the shifting can be noisy and "unpleasant" with accompanying shocks at the moment of moving the chain under the pull of the drive to another pinion.
In the case of multi-speed hubs, it is almost impossible to change gear without interrupting pedaling, i.e. for example, when driving uphill, it is necessary to stop pedaling, which at low speed can cause the ride to stop completely. And this is precisely what the Gear Sensor solves, which ensures that the drive pull is disconnected for a defined time during shifting, so that it is possible to change gear smoothly.
